Nursery plans "causing maximum anxiety"

DORRIDGE residents say a nursery’s persistent bids to take on more children is causing “maximum anxiety to neighbours”.

They spoke after bosses of the 85 Grange Road nursery lost another battle with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to increase the numbers.

The council’s planning committee said the move to increase numbers from 26 to 30 children risked highway safety.

It said: “The proposed development is likely to result in additional manoeuvres and activity on the highway and/or into and out of no. 85.

“At this location, which is on the inside of a bend and opposite a junction, it is not considered to be in the interests of highway safety.”

It has been battling applications from the nursery for four years.

In 2007 it refused planning permission to use the house as a nursery, but this was overturned at the national Planning Inspectorate.

The council refused to increase the numbers from 20 to 26 but this was against overturned at the Planning Inspectorate.

Some 11 objections were given to the council over the latest plan.

One said: “Incremental approach to planning appears to be an abuse of process
and designed to cause maximum anxiety to neighbours.”

Another said: “If permission is given for 30 what is to prevent an application for even
more at a later date?”

An objection said the village “will also experience more traffic from the new Sainsbury’s store”.

No planning application has been submitted for the supermarket’s plans to demolish Forest Court for a store.
