They opposed an official planning application submitted last week for a store on the site of the village hall on an internet forum.
A new village hall would be on the site of a former bowling green and 10 bungalows re-sited for a car park. Some 180 spaces would be provided, 52 more than now.
A public exhibition on early plans was held in January and a poll found residents were split over whether they thought it should go ahead.
Michele Le Resche wrote on The Knowle Society’s website: “I hope that we as the public rally and stand firm together and hope we can try to stop these plans.”
She wrote: “I still am totally against it.”
Another wrote: “Waitrose proposal seems to be pushing through at an alarming pace.”
Martin Guy said: “The principle is fine, but the scale and impact on the immediate area is shocking.”
One wrote: “This proposal for a ’small’ Waitrose seems anything buy small – and I certainly don’t think that the developers would build it for the good of the village if there was little in it for them.”
Another comment said: “The problem with the Waitrose proposal, in my view, is the location chosen.
“The disruption to local residents will be horrendous, the parking for the store is insufficient.”
A comment said: “A large number of people will be ignorant of the facts and flaws of the scheme, and just thinking …… oh how lovely, a Waitrose store.”
