RESIDENTS are to be consulted on putting a crossing or traffic calming at the scene of a pedestrian road death.Some 415 people called for the crossing on Cranmore Boulevard following the death in June last year.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council staff said the crossing was ‘probably not the most appropriate solution’ and traffic calming would keep traffic at a ‘more constant pace’.
Only a scheme ‘supported by the majority of the community’ will go ahead.
It says an ‘innovative’ approach will be needed to secure funding as the crossing might not meet criteria. It would cost £25,000 and the traffic calming would cost £60,000.
But it said: “However, it should be stressed that there is no guarantee of funding being available in any given year.”
An ‘interim measure’ of two elderly warning signs and SLOW carriageway markings will be installed either side of the Swallows Meadow junction.
The report said: “It is considered that these signs will help raise awareness of the presence of these vulnerable members of the local community.”
It noted that residents are also concerned about an increase in the volume and speed of traffic after a new roundabout was put in at the junction with the Stratford Road.

The consultation results will be available by September.
